Why Are My Etsy Sales Down? 3 Reasons Your Etsy Shop Sales Are Dropping
Share
You might be asking Why Are My Etsy Sales Dropping?
Here's What I'm Seeing With Etsy Shops Right Now
Lately, I've been talking to a lot of sellers in my Etsy coaching calls who are asking me the same question:
“Why are my Etsy sales down?”
I've been hearing this from so many sellers lately that I knew it was something I wanted to talk about.
If your Etsy traffic dropped suddenly compared to last year, or you feel like your shop just isn't getting the same traffic and sales it used to, you are definitely not the only one.
I think there are several things happening right now. I think the economy is a factor. I think Etsy has become more saturated. And I think Etsy SEO and competition are playing a bigger role than ever.
But I also don't think this means there is no opportunity to grow your Etsy shop.
I actually think there is still a lot of opportunity. I just think we have to get smarter about how we approach Etsy.
The Economy Can Affect Etsy Sales
The economy is definitely one factor I think Etsy sellers need to consider.
When people are more cautious with their money, they may take longer to make purchases or simply spend less than they did before.
That can have an effect on Etsy shops, especially when you're selling products that aren't necessities.
So if your sales are down, it doesn't automatically mean you've done something wrong.
Sometimes there are things happening outside of your shop that can affect how much people are spending.

Etsy Is More Saturated Than It Used to Be
The other thing I think we have to recognize is that Etsy has become much more competitive.
There are more sellers.
There are more products.
And there are more people trying to get their listings in front of the same shoppers.
That doesn't mean you can't compete. It just means that having a good product isn't always enough anymore.
You have to find a way to get noticed.
And that's where I think Etsy sellers need to be a little more strategic than they may have needed to be in the past.
SEO Matters More When There Is More Competition
SEO is another big piece of the puzzle.
I see a lot of sellers who have wonderful products but aren't necessarily using the keywords and search terms that are going to help the right customers find them.
And this is where I think Etsy SEO gets misunderstood.
It's not just about putting a bunch of keywords in your title and tags.
It's about understanding what people are actually searching for and where there may be opportunities for your products.
That's something I spend a lot of time working on with my own shop and with my coaching clients.
And honestly, this is one of the areas where I think sellers can get a lot more strategic.
Does This Mean Etsy Is Dying?
No.
I don't think Etsy is dying, and I don't think sellers should look at a slower year and assume that there is no longer an opportunity to make sales.
People are still shopping on Etsy.
New products are still taking off.
Sellers are still growing their shops.
But I do think the Etsy marketplace is changing, and what worked several years ago may not work exactly the same way today.
We have to change with it.
That doesn't mean completely starting over.
It means paying attention to what's happening and being willing to look at your shop differently.
So, Why Are Your Etsy Sales Down?
The honest answer is: it could be a combination of things.
The economy may be affecting your customers.
More competition may be affecting your visibility.
Changes in search and SEO may be affecting how people find your listings.
And your particular products, niche, or market may be experiencing changes that aren't obvious when you're simply looking at your monthly sales number.
That's why I don't think there is one magic Etsy tip that is going to fix declining sales for every shop.
Every shop is different.
And that's where I think getting another set of eyes on your shop can be incredibly helpful.

This Is Where Etsy Coaching Can Help
When I work with sellers, I don't just give them a list of generic Etsy SEO tips.
I use my own method for looking at listings, SEO, and search opportunities to help figure out where there may be real customers looking for the types of products they sell.
There is a lot more to that process than I can put into one blog post — and honestly, that's exactly why I offer Etsy coaching.
If your Etsy sales have dropped, I can take a look at your shop with you and help you figure out what I would focus on next.
You don't necessarily need to completely change your shop.
You may just need to look at it from a different perspective.
